Jones Leads Villanova After Day One of Big 5 Invitational

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. - After day one at the Big 5 Invitational, the Villanova Wildcats are currently in third place in the team standings while senior Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) leads the squad tied for 6th place overall in the individual standings after carding a 75 for the day.
As a team, the Wildcats are just two strokes behind Yale and Sacred Heart for the title. Rounding out the top five are Sacred Heart, Yale, Villanova, Connecticut and Princeton in the team standings. Princeton's Greg Jarmas leads the individual standings after posting a 71 for the day.
Behind Jones, the Wildcats are led by graduate student Cory Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.), who is tied for 10th place overall after posting a round of 76 , senior Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) and sophomore Ted Brennan (Newtown Square, Pa.), who are both tied for 24th place overall after rounds of 78, and senior Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.), who is tied for 81st place overall after posting an 85 for the day.
With just one round to play at Philmont Country Club, Villanova will look to gain ground in both the team and individual standings.
