Villanova Golf Brings Home an 8th Place Team Finish at Mission Inn Collegiate Classic

HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Villanova men's golf team concluded their three-day matchup at the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic at El Campéon Golf Course finishing in 8th place (300-302-295--897; +45) in the 13 team field. In their final round, Villanova put together a three-day low of 295 which guided the Wildcats to a top-ten finish. Junior Brendan Kelly (74-71-72--217; +4) led the Wildcats with a 7th place individual finish which marks the third time the golfer has concluded in the top-15 for the fall 2009 season. Following behind the guidance of Kelly, sophomore Brian Colbert (75-74-69--218; +5) tied for 8th place, sophomore Bret McGaughey (74-78-77--229; +16) tied for 32nd, junior Colin List (77-79-77--233, +20) tied for 41st and freshman Joe Fransted (84-84-79--247; +34) concluded in 58th place. Florida Gulf Coast took home the tournament crown, with a 285-288-291--864; +12). The Eagles' Dan Mazziotta was the top individual with a 68-70-71--209; -4. Rounding out the top five team finishes were Stetson University, Appalachian State, Rollins College and host institution St. John's University. The Wildcats are back in action this coming weekend as they prepare for the Big 5 Classic held in Philadelphia, Pa. on October 10th and 11th. The annual outing will be hosted by Temple University at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
