Farmingdale, N.Y. - - - The Villanova men's golf team had their top-finish of the 2001 fall season, placing eighth out of 17 teams at the McLaughlin Tournament hosted by St. John's in Farmingdale, N.Y. The tournament was held from Sept. 27-29., at the Bethpage Red Course.

For the third consecutive tournament freshman Jeff Parry (Columbia, Md.), was the Wildcats top finisher. He ended the three day, 54 hole tournament +18 (221). Parry fired his best round of the season shooting 67 (-3).

As a team, Villanova shot a three round total of 895 (+55).

Other Wildcats participating in team play included junior John Ward (Milburn, N.J.) who shot 225 (+15) and was the second top-finisher for Villanova, sophomore Matt Gugino (Leroy, N.Y.) who shot 227 (+17), Shawn Standen (Avon Lakes, Ohio) shooting 229 (+19), and sophomore John Keller (Bayside, N.Y.) who shot 233 (+23).

Freshman Chris Peterson (Edina, Minn.) recorded a three-day total of 235 (+25) in individual play.

Villanova will play in the 36-hole Rehobeth Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
