LORTON, Va. - Villanova finished a spectacular weekend at the CHAMPS/Patriot Intercollegiate on Sunday morning, posting a third place team finish while senior Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) concluded the three round tournament tied for second place in the individual standings after carding rounds of 71-72-68--211 (-2). The top three placement for Kania marks the highest of the fall season for the senior thus far in 2012.
Senior Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) also had a strong showing for the Wildcats after coming into the final round tied for fifth place overall. Skurla finished the weekend tied for fourth place overall with rounds of 72-71-69--212 (-1).
Cory Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.) 75-75-74--224 (+11), Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) 78-74-75--227 (+14) and Jimmy Johnston (Wayne, Pa.) 86-75-75--236 (+23) rounded out the top five for Villanova tied for 33rd, 41st and 64th place overall, respectively. Ted Brennan (Newtown Square, Pa.), competing as an individual, finished tied for 56th overall with rounds of 74-79-79--232 (+19).
Missouri captured the team championship with Penn, Villanova, Hofstra and Delaware rounding out the top five. Mizzou's Jace Long took home the top individual honors after finishing the weekend with a three-round total of 209 (-4).
The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 13th and Sunday, Oct. 14th when they compete in the BIG 5 Invitational in Huntington Valley, Pa.
