Final Results

SUNSET TRAILS, N.C. - The Villanova men's golf team concluded their three-day matchup at the Sea Trails Intercollegiate tied for sixth place in the 16-team field. In their final round, the team managed to put together a combined score of 287, giving them a total of 870 which was good for 6-over par. Also finishing alongside the Wildcats were host institution Elon University, Guilford College and Murray State University.

Junior Brendan Kelly (70-71-73) led the Wildcats tying for a 13th place finish after turning in a third-round score of 73. His total for the weekend was a 214, good for 2-under par. Sophomore Brian Colbert (67-74-75) came away tied for 20th place after a final round of 75. Freshman Steve Skurla (72-78-70), sophomore Bret McGaughey (79-75-69) and junior Colin List (78-76-76) rounded out the Villanova top 5 tied for 38th, tied for 48th and 77th place finishes, respectively. Wofford's Mark Joye took home the medalist honors with a final score of 208 (70-66-72), guiding the Terriers to second place (846). Garrett Medeiros (69-71-71) and Mike McKenzie (72-68-71) tied for fifth with a score of 211 and Zach Capps placed in a tie for 20th (68-73-75--216) for Wofford.

Stetson's Sam Ryder (66-72-71) and Micah Jacobsen (69-72-68) finished in a tie for second with a score of 209 to lead the Hatters to tournament title with a final score of 841. David McAndrew finished tied for fifth (69-69-73--212) and Gabe Costa posted a score of 212 (70-70-72) to finish tie for 10th to help the Hatters.

The tournament marks the second time Kelly has finished in the top 15 in intercollegiate play for the fall 2009 season as well as the second time Villanova has finished in the top 10 as a team.

 

 

The Wildcats are back in action next weekend as they travel to Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla. to participate in the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic on October 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
