NEWPORT, R.I. - The Villanova golf team concluded their two day competition at the Adams Cup of Newport, turning in a fourth place team finish with a three round total of 897. Senior Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) lead the squad finishing tied for third place overall after carding rounds of 69-73-73--215 (+4).
UCF took the team competition, posting a three round total of 286-289-291--866 for the competition. Yale, Johnson & Wales, Villanova, Sacred Heart, Hartford, Connecticut, Penn, Rhode Island and Bryant rounded out the top 10.
Yale's Sam Bernstein was the overall first place finisher after carding rounds of 69-71-71--211 and finishing at even par for three rounds. Bernstein held a significant three stroke lead ahead of teammate Joe Willis for second place.
Rounding out the Villanova finishers were senior Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) 73-73-76--222 (+11), sophomore Ted Brennan (Newtown Square, Pa.) 77-75-79--231 (+20), graduate student Cory Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.) 74-83-76--233 (+22) and senior Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) 76-80-81--237 (+26), who finished tied for 13th, 36th, 45th and 56th places, respectively.
The Wildcats will be back in action on the links when they head to Lorton, Va. September 29th and 30th to compete in the Patriot Intercollegiate.
