Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova golf team returned to action this past weekend for the opening of their 2009 fall schedule. Taking part in the annual Navy Fall Classic held in Annapolis, Maryland, Villanova put together a solid fourth place team finish among 17 schools with a total score of 577, good for a two-day finish of 9 over par.

Junior Brendan Kelly (Annapolis, Md.) showed that he maintained his form from his sophomore season and finished the Saturday/Sunday competition with two rounds of 69, good for a total of 4 under par for the weekend. His superb play earned him a third-place finish among an 85 player field.

The Wildcats also featured favorable performances by sophomores Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) and Bret McGaughey (Laguna Beach, Calif.). Colbert finished the weekend in 14th place after a first round score of 69 and second round of 75. McGaughey earned himself a 24th place finish en route to rounds of 74 and 73, respectively.

Finishing out the Villanova team scores was freshman newcomer Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) and junior Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.). Skurla turned in a 36th place finish while List placed 54th.

The Wildcat golf team is back in action next weekend as the travel to Farmingdale, N.Y. to take part in The McLaughlin on Long Island.
