VERONA, N.Y. - The Villanova golf team turned in a 6th place finish in the Turning Stone Intercollegiate, held in Verona, N.Y. after the final round of play on Monday morning. Senior Michael Kania led the Wildcats with a round of 73 for the day, finishing T-19th with a weekend total of 220 (75-72-73--220; +4).
Competing as an individual, graduate student Cory Siegfried led all Villanova participants for the weekend finishing T-16th with rounds of 69-75-75--219; +3.
Missouri took home the team title after setting a blistering pace during the first two rounds and finished the competition with a team total of 842 and 22-under par (276-283-283--842; -22). Mizzou's Jace Long was the individual overall winner with a three round total of 201 and 15-under par for the weekend (66-66-69--201; -15).
Rounding out the Wildcat performances were senior Steve Skurla, T-29 (80-69-76--225; +9) junior Vince Boyle, T-29 (70-79-76--225; +9), senior Derek Jones, T-37 (74-77-78--229; +13) and freshman Jessie Stephens, T-52 (79-78-80--237; +21).
Following Missouri, Louisville claimed second place while Memphis, Central Connecticut State, IPFW, Villanova, Cleveland State, Loyola (Ill.), Army, Canisus, Delaware, Cincinnati and St. Peters rounded out the finishers for the day.
Villanova will be back in action on Sept. 17th and 18th when they travel to Newport, R.I. to participate in the Adams Cup.
