VERONA, N.Y. - After the final round of play at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, the Villanova Wildcats finished in 14th place in the team standings following a three-round team score of 312-305-308--925 (+61) at the Kaluhyat Course in Verona, N.Y. It marked the opening weekend for the 2013-14 Wildcats as they look forward to the rest of their fall campaign with a young squad.
Host institution Missouri captured the overall team title for the second straight year and finished as the only school under par for the two day event. The Tigers led the field at -22 after pacing themselves to rounds of 281-282-279--842 for the competition.
Cleveland State's Andrew Bailey captured the overall individual title and finished at -9 for the two day event with rounds of 66-70-71--207. Missouri's Ryan Zech finished one stroke behind for second place with rounds of 68-70-70--208 (-8).
Villanova freshman Lucas Trim (Tampa, Fla.) (74-75-78--227) and junior Ted Brennan (Newtown Square, Pa.) (75-75-77--227) led the Wildcats both tied for 38th place overall after finishing with a total score of 227 (+11). Senior Robby Meador (Miami Lakes, Fla.) (82-78-46--236; +20), sophomore Luke Waggoner (Crystal Lake, Ill.) (81-82-77--240; +24) and senior Vince Boyle (Philadelphia, Pa.) (82-77-89--248; +32) rounded out the Villanova team scoring in 56th, 64th and 71st place each, respectively.
Rounding out the team finishes for the weekend was Missouri, Cleveland State, McNeese State, Binghamton, Connecticut, Loyola Chicago, Detroit, Central Connecticut, George Mason, La Salle, Seton Hall, St. Peter's, Canisius and Villanova.
