Wildcats Tied for 5th Place After Day One of BIG EAST Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. - Following the first round of play at the BIG EAST Championship in Orlando, Fla. The Villanova Wildcats are tied for 5th place in the 12 team field with a team score of 297 (+9). The three-day championship at the Reunion Resort's Watson Course will continue tomorrow, Monday, April 29th and conclude on Tuesday, April 30th.
Notre Dame currently leads the field at even-par with a team total of 288. They are followed closely behind by South Florida (290, +2), Marquette (292, +4), and Connecticut (294, +6) for the top four team spots. Louisville, DePaul and Villanova are all tied for 5th place with a team total of 297, Cincinnati and St. John's are tied for 8th place at 298 (+10), while Georgetown (299, +11), Rutgers (300, +12) and Seton Hall (313, +25) round out the team standings after day one.
Villanova graduate student Cory Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.) led the `Cats with a 73 (+1) on the day and is tied for 14th place overall. Seniors Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) and Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) are both tied for 19th place after carding rounds of 74 (+2) while classmate Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) is tied for 34rd place and finished day one with a 76 (+4). Sophomore Ted Brennan (Newtown Square, Pa.) rounds out the Villanova scorers tied for 54th place posting a one-round score of 81 (+9).
Cincinnati's David Tepe currently leads the field in sole possession of first place after carding a 69 on Sunday and is -3 in the three-day tournament. Connecticut's Zack Zaback, St. John's Ryan Gay, Notre Dames Paul McNamara and South Florida's Chase Koepka are all tied for second place at -2 and all posted rounds of 70.
Round two will commence Monday morning with the first grouping teeing off a 8 a.m. Results will be available on villanova.com as soon as they are made available.
