OAKTIE, S.C. - Lucas Trim leads the Villanova field tied for 9th place overall following the first round of the BIG EAST Championship, held at Callawassie Island's par-72 course in South Carolina. Trim tallied a 75 for the afternoon and is only five competitors and five strokes behind the leader after day one of competition.
Robby Meador also had a solid day on the links and is tied for 31st place overall after carding a score of 81, while Luke Waggoner is tied for 41st place with a first-round total of 85. Peter Mandich and Ted Brennan round up the Villanova scorers both tied for 43rd place with a total of 87 for the day. As a team, the Wildcats are in 9th place overall with a team total of 328.
St. John's leads the field after posting a squad total of 290 while the Red Storm's Ben Ludlam is in sole possession of first place after finishing one-under par at 70 for the day. Marquette's Brandon Cloete and St. John's Ryan McCormick are both tied in second place and are just one stoke behind after each posing a 71 on the day.
Behind St. John's, Marquette follows closely behind in the team competition with a 295 while Seton Hall, DePaul, Xavier, Georgetown, Butler, Creighton and Villanova round out the nine team field. Competition will resume tomorrow in the 54-hole tournament.
