Wildcats Finish in Fifth in Brutal Conditions at Navy Spring Invitational
April 22, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Villanova finished in for fifth at the 36-hole Navy Spring Invitational being played at the par-71, 6,588-yard Naval Academy Golf Course. The second round was played under brutal conditions that saw rain, cold temperatures, and gusting winds throughout the day. Despite the conditions, the Wildcats battled through to a 295-314--609 (+41) which was 16 shots behind crosstown rival Pennsylvania who came out on top of the event.
Senior Brian Colbert (73-77--150;+8) and junior Steve Skurla (71-79--150;+8) both finished in the top-10 in a tie for 9th place. For both golfers, it is their second straight top-10 finish after they each finished inside the top ten at the Wildcat Invitational earlier in the month. Skurla placed in 3rd in the local event while Colbert was in 6th.
In addition to the strong finish by the top two, junior Michael Kania (74-78--152;+10) also finished in the top-20 in a tie for 20th. It was Kania's 3rd top-20 finish of the 2011-12 season to go along with two top-10s.
The Wildcats will travel south to play the last tournament on their regular season slate at the BIG EAST Championships in Orlando, Fla. starting Saturday, April 28 and running through Monday, April 30.
