STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - After day one of the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State University in State College, Pa., the Villanova Wildcats are tied for sixth place overall in the team competition with a two round team score of 604 (+36) following the first rounds of action on Saturday. The competition will conclude Sunday morning with one final round to determine the overall team and individual champions.
Senior Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) leads the team tied for ninth place in the individual competition after posting rounds of 76 and 73 (149, +7), respectively. He is followed closely behind by Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.), who sits tied for 17th place after posting identical rounds of 75 on the afternoon (150, +8).
Senior Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) and graduate student Cory Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.) are both tied for 31st place after notching a combined round total of 153 (+11). Sophomore Ted Brennan (Newtown Square, Pa.) rounds out the Villanova scorers tied for 39th place with a 154 (+12) following rounds of 77 and 77 on the day.
Penn State's JD Dornes, competing as an individual, leads the overall competition at even-par while Maryland's Sean Bosdosh (144, +3) and PSU's Anthony DeGol (145, +3) round out the top finishers of the day for first, second and third place overall. Maryland leads the team field with Penn State, Minnesota, Xavier and Binghamton rounding out the top five teams on the afternoon.
