Bergman Cards Score of 73 in First Round of BIG EAST Championship

HEBRON, Ky.-- Junior Brett Bergman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) carded a team-best score of 73 in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday and is currently tied for 10th place in the field of 60 golfers as the 12 conference teams head into the second round of play on Monday morning. As a team, Villanova had a score of 305 on Sunday and is in 11th place in the team standings.
Bergman led the way with his round of 73 and the freshman tandem of Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.) and Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.) also had strong showings in the opening round of play. Casey is tied for 21st place in the field after shooting a 75 and List is one stroke back in a tie for 28th place following his round of 76.
Juniors Doug Stadler (Wexford, Pa.) and Andrew Alexander (Rochester, Minn.) rounded out the Wildcat scores. Stadler sits in 56th place with a first round score of 81 and Alexander is tied for 57th after posting an 82 on Sunday.
Marquette had the top team score and the Golden Eagles' Ted Gray the best individual round on Sunday. Gray fired a four-under par round of 68 to hold the individual lead by three strokes, while Marquette's team score of 291 places it three strokes ahead of Seton Hall.
This week's BIG EAST Championship is being contested at Traditions Golf Club and is being hosted by Cincinnati. The course measures 7,103 yards and is a par-72 format. Play continues at 8 a.m. on Monday with the second 18 holes of the competition.
