Mandich and Meador Lead Wildcats to 6th Place Finish

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - On the final day action at the Lafayette Invitational, the Villanova golf team finished the two-day event tied for 6th place alongside Rider following 36 holes of play. The Wildcats carded a team score of 610 (309-307) and finished at +48, moving up one spot in the team standings after day one to conclude the Invitational at the par-71, 6,635 yard Silver Creek Country Club course in Hellertown, Pa.
Freshman Peter Mandich (Naperville, Ill.) and senior Robby Meador (Miami Lakes, Fla.) led Villanova with identical rounds of 76 and 74 for a total of 150 (+8) and tied for 13th place in the individual standings. The duo combined for 10 birdies, five apiece, over 36 holes.
Freshman Lucas Trim (Tampa, Fla.) carded an 81 in Monday's round to combine for 157 (+15) and finished tied for 50th place overall. Sophomore Luke Waggoner (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and senior Vince Boyle (Philadelphia, Pa.) rounded out the Villanova finishers for the event with a total of 159 (81-78; +17) and 163 (82-81; +21), respectively, to finish tied for 62nd and 81st places.
Longwood claimed the overall team title with a total combined score of 595 (+27) with rounds of 300 and 295. They finished three strokes ahead of Central Connecticut State while Hofstra, Bucknell, Drexel and La Salle rounded out the top five teams, with the Dragons and Explorers tying for fifth place. Rounding out the competition was Rider, Villanova, Canisus, Monmouth, Colgate, Lehigh, Manhattan, Lafayette Maroon, Lafayette White, Iona, Siena and Niagara.
Drexel's Chris Crawford came from behind to earn the individual championship and finished at +2 for 36 holes of play and carded a 73 and 71 for a total of 144.
Villanova will continue along with their spring season in just a few short days when they take part in the FDU Invitational on April 13th and 14th in Hamburg, N.J. Action will take place at Crystal Springs Country Club and will play as a par-71, 6,734 yard course.
