PUERTO RICO - The Wildcats spent March 10th and 11th of their spring break competing in Puerto Rico where they finished tied for 11th place in the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate with a score of 931 (318-305-308). Freshman Colin List, (Boynton Beach, Fla.) was the team medalist for Villanova, finishing tied for 22nd place.
List struggled the first round shooting 80 on the 6,771 yard course, but came back strong to finish with scores of 71 and 73 ending eight over par. The score of 71 that List shot in the second round is his season best and was only three strokes off the daily low round.
Freshman Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.) finished in 65th place with Junior Doug Stadler only two stokes behind him tied for 67th place. Casey started the tournament shooting 80 in the first round followed by 78. With a score of 81 in the third round he finished with a total of 239. Stadler started the tournament with an 82 in round one and 80 in the second round and he finished well with a 79.
Sophomore Mike Gross (Clarks Green, Pa.) finished tied in 78th for the Wildcats with scores of 90-83-86 to combine for a 259. Junior Paul Sjoberg (Thief River Falls, Miss.) came in 81st place with scores of 96-86-92 for the event.
University of Virginia (857) came in first place in the tournament with a convincing 17 stroke lead over second place University of Kentucky (874). Tied for first place in the event were Andy Winings of Kentucky and Keegan Bradley of host team St. John's with a score of 211. Both recorded tournament lows of 68, Winings in round two and Bradley in round 3.
