PINEHURST, N.C. - At the end of the final day of competition of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C., the Villanova Wildcats finished in 15th place overall in the team competition in the 16 team field. Villanova concluded the tournament with a total score of 936 at the par-71, 6,832 course of Pinehurst No. 6 in the three-day tournament.
Senior co-captain Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) led the team tied for 31st place overall after finishing round three with a 70 (71-88-70; +16).
Michael Kania, Derek Jones, Ted Brennan and Vince Boyle round out the Villanova scorers finishing tied for 54th, 70th, 74th and 84th place overall with total scores of 235, 239, 240 and 244, respectively. Cory Siegfried, competing as an individual, tied for 82nd place after posting a 243 in the competition.
Ball State took home the team title with a three-round team score of 885. VCU, Richmond, Winthrop and UNCG rounded out the top five team finishers. Tyler Merkel won the overall individual title with a total of 214. He just barely edged out VCU's Adam Ball who finished one behind at 215. Richmond's Daniel Walker took home third place honors with a three-round total of 216.
The Wildcats will be back in action on April 1st and 2nd when they host their own Wildcat Invitational in Malvern, Pa.
