Men's Football Standout Earns AP All-America Honors

Villanova University sophomore Brian Westbrook has been named to the Associated Press Division I-AA All-America team as the all-purpose player. In 11 games this past season, Westbrook recorded an NCAA Division I-AA record 3,026 yards of all-purpose offense for a staggering average of 275.1 all-purpose yards per game. He finished the season with 200 carries for 1,046 yards, 89 receptions for 1,144 yards, 15 punt returns for 192 yards and 25 kickoff returns for 644 yards. He tallied 26 touchdowns, including 15 receiving, 10 rushing and one on a kickoff return.

"Brian Westbrook is the consummate All-American who can do it all. He can run, catch passes and return kicks," said Villanova head coach Andy Talley. "Brian is also a humble kid who excels in the classroom. He is an All-American in every sense of the word."

Westbrook's crowning achievement this season came in the season's final game against Rhode Island, when be became the first player in the history of college football at any level to rush for 1,000 yards and receive for 1,000 yards in the same season.

A native of Ft. Washington, Md., Westbrook established 12 school records this season including all-purpose yards in a game (428 vs. Pittsburgh), points in a season (160), career touchdowns (37) and rushing yards in a season (1,046).
