VILLANOVA, Pa. - Four Villanova Wildcats were honored for their play this season by being named to the CAA All-Conference football teams. Senior tight end Matt Sherry was a first team selection, while sophomore defensive end Tim Kukucka earned second team distinction. Senior running Matt Dicken and sophomore linebacker Osayi Osunde were named to the third team.

Sherry, who is a native of Rumford, R.I., led the Wildcats in receiving this past season with 37 catches for 461 yards and five touchdowns. In a win over William & Mary on Oct. 6, he registered his first career 100-yard receiving game with seven receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Kukucka led Villanova is both tackles for loss (12 for -55 yards) and quarterback sacks (7 for -34 yards). He also added 40 total tackles, a team-high tying three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. For his efforts versus Towson on Nov. 10, he was named the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week. In the 14-12 win over Towson, Kukucka had five solo tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles. He hails from Wall, N.J.

Dicken was the team's go-to running back in 2007. He finished the year with 922 yards rushing on 221 carries (4.2 yard per rush) and four touchdowns. He also added 13 receptions for 152 yards and a score. The Cape May, N.J., native had four 100-yard rushing games this season, including a career-high 172 yards on the ground at Massachusetts on Oct. 13.

Osunde was one of the team's most improved players this season. After recording just three tackles last year, Osunde led the Wildcats in tackles in 2007 with 82 total stops. He was also credited with five tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick. The Bloomsburg, Pa., native started all 11 games at linebacker.

 

 

Villanova finished the season with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-3 CAA mark. The Wildcats ended the year in fine fashion with a 16-10 victory over No. 9 and arch rival Delaware.
