Quarterback Young to Miss Remainder of Season
Oct. 12, 2007
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University sophomore quarterback Antwon Young will miss the rest of the 2007 season due to a knee injury. Young suffered a torn left ACL in last Saturday's 63-24 win over William & Mary.
Young is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday, November 1. He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the 2008 campaign.
In six games this year, Young has completed 99-of-153 (64.7%) for 1,192 yards to go with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. In last Saturday's game versus William & Mary, Young completed 20-of-26 for 216 yards and four touchdowns. He also had five carries for 38 yards and one rushing score.
With Young sidelined, true freshman Chris Whitney will take over the quarterback duties. The 6-3, 220 pound Whitney is a native of Warminster, Pa., who played his high school football at St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia. As a senior at St. Joseph's Prep, Whitney earned 2006 Catholic League Red Division MVP honors. In addition, he earned Philadelphia Daily News first team honors and first team All-State accolades.
Whitney will make his first career start on Saturday, Oct. 13 when the Wildcats travel to Amherst, Mass., to take on the No. 4 ranked Massachusetts Minutemen. Last week against William & Mary, Whitney completed one pass in one attempt for 25 yards and a touchdown, in addition to tallying two rushes for 10 yards.
