Dempsey Earns CAA Rookie of the Week Honors

Villanova University freshman safety John Dempsey has been named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week. Dempsey earns the award for his efforts in Saturday's 34-14 win over the Penn Quakers.

In the victory, Dempsey tallied a team-high tying six tackles, two interceptions, one sack, one tackle for loss and a pass break-up. As a team, the Villanova defense tied a school record with seven interceptions.

After four games this season, Dempsey has 14 total tackles, two interceptions, two tackles for loss, one sack and a pass break-up.

The 6-0, 205 pound Dempsey is a native of Secane, Pa., and a 2007 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School.
