Villanova Jumps to No. 3 in National Polls

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats moved up two spots to No. 3 in both the Sports Network and the FCS Coaches polls. Villanova was No. 5 in both polls last week and moved up the two spots after its 27-24 win over FBS member Temple.
Richmond is the new No. 1 team in both polls. The Spiders garnered 3,042 points and 103 first place votes in the Sports Network poll. Appalachian State is second with 2,740 points (10 first place votes) followed by the Wildcats with 2,705 points and three first place votes. Northern Iowa checks it in at No. 4 with 2,651 points followed by Montana at No. 5 with 2,618 points.
There are seven CAA teams ranked in this week's Sports Network Top 25 including five in the top 10. In addition to Richmond and Villanova, other CAA programs ranked in the Top 10 include James Madison at No. 6, William & Mary at No. 7 and New Hampshire at No. 9. Massachusetts is No. 17 and Maine is ranked at No. 20.
The CAA had a tremendous start to the 2009 season last weekend as three conference teams earned wins over FBS schools. In addition to Villanova's win over Temple, Richmond tallied a 24-16 win at Duke and William & Mary recorded a 26-14 victory at Virginia.
