Villanova University senior safety Rob Rolle is one of 21 players named to the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. The Buchanan Award is given to the top defensive player in FCS Football.

The watch list will have updates throughout the season. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote on the finalists following the regular season.

Rolle is coming off a sensation junior season in 2016 where he tied for the lead in all of FCS football in interceptions with seven to go with 63 total tackles which ranked fourth on the team. He also recorded two defensive touchdowns last year, including a 100-yard interception return and a three-yard fumble return. For his efforts last season, Rolle was named first team All-CAA and a first team All-American by Hero Sports.

In addition to earning a spot on the Buchanan Watch List, Rolle has been named the CAA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and a preseason All-American by both Athlon Sports and STATS.

Rolle and the Wildcats kickoff the 2017 season on Sept. 2, with a road game at Lehigh. Villanova returns 15 starters from last year’s team that went 9-4 overall and advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs.
