VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University senior defensive lineman Antoine Lewis is one of 20 players named to the preseason Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. The Buchanan Award is given to the top defensive player in FCS football.
The 6-2, 290 pound Lewis was a first team All-CAA selection last year after starting all 12 games and tallying 58 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery. This was the second time in his career that he earned All-CAA accolades. As a sophomore in 2010, he was named third team All-Conference. Lewis has made 150 tackles during his Villanova career.
Lewis, who is a native of Somers Point, N.J., and a graduate of Mainland High School, will serve as a team captain for the 2013 Wildcats. He was named a preseason first team FCS All-American by The Sports Network earlier this month.
The Buchanan Award Watch List can undergo revision during the 2013 season. Ballots will be sent to a panel of about 175 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries following the regular season. The winner will be invited to The Sports Network FCS Awards Presentation on Dec. 16.
Villanova opens the 2013 season on August 31 with a game at Boston College.
