Darrel Young Signs Free Agent Contract with Washington Redskins

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Former Villanova standout linebacker Darrel Young has signed a free agent contract with the Washington Redskins. Young becomes the fifth former Wildcat who is currently under contract with an NFL team.
Young was a third team All-CAA selection as a senior this season for a Villanova team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division I Football Championship. The Wildcats were ranked in the top-10 in the nation throughout the season and made their first postseason appearance since 2002.
A four-year starter during his Villanova career, Young ranked second on the squad in 2008 with 73 total tackles (41 solo, 32 assisted). He made nine tackles for a loss, including a pair of sacks and also had three pass breakups.
Young played in 44 games during his collegiate career and totaled 244 total tackles, including 113 solo tackles and 131 assisted stops. He registered 19.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and three blocked kicks.
The other former Villanova players currently under contract with NFL teams include wide receiver Brian Finneran (Atlanta Falcons), tight end Matt Sherry (Cincinnati Bengals), safety Raymond Ventrone (New England Patriots) and running back Brian Westbrook (Philadelphia Eagles).
Throughout its illustrious history, Villanova has had 104 former players go on to play professional football.
