VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova head football coach Andy Talley has earned the Sportsman's Award from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. Talley was presented with the award at the Marine Corps Ball held on Friday, April 16, at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia.
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation's primary goal is to honor marines by helping to educate their children. The scholarship programs provide life-changing opportunities for students that need financial assistance towards a college degree. Since 1962, the Foundation has provided 24,000 academic scholarships to upstanding and deserving sons and daughters of Marines with particular attention given to children whose parent was killed or wounded in action.
The 2009 season was a special one for Talley and the Wildcats. Villanova registered a 14-1 overall record en route to the program's first NCAA FCS National Championship. For his efforts in 2009, Talley was named the CAA Coach of the Year, the AFCA National Coach of the Year and the Maxwell Club's President's Award.
The all-time winningest coach in school history, Talley's 25-year Villanova record currently stands at 179-102-1 and his 30-year career coaching mark is 207-120-2.
