Dempsey and Sherry Named Sister Mary Margaret Cribben Award Recipients

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Seniors Jackie Dempsey and Matt Sherry were awarded the Annual Villanova Sister Mary Margaret Cribben Award on Tuesday, April 8, at the student-athlete luncheon held on campus at the Connelly Center. Created in 1985, this award is dedicated to the athletes of the year who unselfishly sacrifice time, effort, body and soul to lead and motivate their teammates in excelling for Villanova athletics through inspirations. Dempsey is in the midst of her senior season as an outfielder on the softball team. Throughout her career she has struggled with injuries, but has never let it be a factor in her playing at Villanova. Throughout 29 games in 2008, Dempsey has 18 hits, 14 runs and has knocked in seven RBI and is the captain of the Wildcats. Sherry was named the CAA Football Student-Athlete of the Year. The senior tight end posted a team-high 37 receptions for a team-best 461 yards and five touchdowns. Sherry was a first team All-CAA selection, first team All-ECAC selection, an Honorable Mention Sports Network FCA All-American honoree and the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic Football Performer of the Year. The Sister Mary Margaret Cribben Award is given annually to the student-athlete who has earned the respect of their teammates and coaches through his or her effort.
