Villanova Football Announces Staff Changes
March 15, 2005
Villanova University head football coach Andy Talley today announced three changes to the 2005 Wildcat coaching staff. In addition to promoting secondary coach Mark Reardon to defensive coordinator, Villanova also hired Sean Spencer as linebackers coach and Brendan Daly as defensive line coach.
Reardon, a member of the Wildcat coaching staff since 2001, replaces Joe Trainer who left to become the head coach at Millersville University. Last season, he guided cornerback Jeremy Morgan to third team All-Atlantic 10 distinction. In 2003, Reardon coached safety Raymond Ventrone to first team All-Atlantic 10 accolades and cornerback Clarence Curry to second team All-Conference acclaim. Prior to arriving at Villanova, Reardon was an assistant at Lafayette College from 1998-2000. As a player, he was a two-time All-Patriot League performer and four-year letterwinner at Lafayette.
Spencer comes to Villanova from the College of Holy Cross where he served as defensive line coach in 2004. Before his stint at Holy Cross, Spencer was the defensive line coach at the University of Massachusetts from 2001-04. In 2003, he helped the Minutemen finish second in the Atlantic 10 in sacks with 34. Spencer has also had coaching stops at Trinity College (1998-2001), Shippensburg University (1996-98), Wesleyan University (1995-96) and Bulkeley High School in Hartford, Connecticut (1990). As a player, Spencer was a three-year starter at free safety at Clarion University where he graduated in 1995 with a political science degree.
Daly returns for his second stint on the Main Line. From 1999-2000, he coached the Villanova tight ends and coordinated the defensive and special team scout units. Most recently, Daly was the tight ends coach at Illinois State University. Before his one-year stop at Illinois State, he spent four years at Oklahoma State University. From 2003-04, he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Cowboys, while from 2001-03, he served as a graduate assistant football coach. Daly has also coached at the University of Maryland (2000-01), Drake University (1998-99) and Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey, Florida (1997-98). Daly is a 1997 graduate of Drake University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.
