Villanova's Westbrook to Play in Hula Bowl
Feb. 1, 2002 Villanova University running back Brian Westbrook will play in his second All-Star game in as many weeks when he participates in the 2002 Hula Bowl held in Maui on Saturday, Feb. 2. The game can be seen live on ESPN beginning at 8 p.m. eastern time. Westbrook will play for the South squad coached by University of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. Assisting Stoops will be current Washington Redskin head coach and former University of Florida head coach Steve Spurrier. The quarterback for the South team will be Major Applewhite of the University of Texas.
Last Saturday in Mobile, Alabama, Westbrook played in the prestigious Senior Bowl. As a senior at Villanova this past season, Westbrook rushed 249 times for 1,603 yards and 22 touchdowns, made 59 receptions for 658 yards and six touchdowns, returned 17 kickoffs for 440 yards and one score and he returned eight punts for 122 yards. For his efforts last year, Westbrook was awarded the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in all of NCAA I-AA football.
