Villanova defeated Stony Brook, 35-6, in its season home opener on September 21, 2013.
A newcomer to the Villanova staff in 2013 is Matt Jones who will assist on the offensive side of the ball and will coach the Wildcat tight ends.
Jones arrives at Villanova from Avila University in Kansas City where he served as the offensive line coach, as well as the run game and academic coordinator. Jones helped Avila set 16 offensive school records, including fewest sacks allowed, rushing yards in a season and rushing touchdowns.
Prior to his two-year stint at Avila, Jones was an assistant at University of St. Francis in Joilet, Illinois from 2009-2011. He began his coaching career at his alma mater Eastern Illinois where he was a student assistant for one season.
Jones graduated from Eastern Illinois in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Sports Studies and a minor in Health Studies. He also has an Illinois teaching certification. During his time at Eastern Illinois, he was a two-year member of the school's rugby team.
Jones is single and resides in Villanova, Pa.
