Tickets On Sale For Annual Football Banquet on January 23
Tickets are now on sale for the football team’s 90th annual postseason banquet. The banquet is on Saturday, January 23 at Springfield Country Club, with doors opening at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Team awards will be given out following dinner, and the banquet is a great opportunity to join the Villanova coaches and student-athletes as they celebrate the 2015 season and say farewell to the senior class.
Being the Match: C.J. Logan Identified as Match for Patient in Need
Senior cornerback C.J. Logan (Watertown, Mass.) is the third Villanova football player this season to be identified as a match for a patient in need through “Be The Match,” the organization which manages the bone marrow donor registry. Logan recently underwent a surgical procedure to donate bone marrow to that patient, adding to the legacy of the “Get in the Game, Save a Life” campaign started in 2009 by Wildcats head coach Andy Talley.
Don Cherry Earns Second Team All-America Honors
Senior linebacker Don Cherry (Trumbull, Conn.) was named to the STATS FCS All-America Team in an announcement made on Tuesday afternoon. Cherry was a second team All-America selection after a strong 2015 season in which he led the Wildcats dominant corps of linebackers. This is the second straight season that Cherry has been an All-American and he also earned first team All-CAA Football accolades last month.

Longtime Villanova University offensive line coach Mark Ferrante has been named the FCS Assistant Coach of the Year by The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Senior linebacker Don Cherry (Trumbull, Conn.) has earned another top academic honor, as he was named a Capital One Second Team Academic All-American for the second straight year. The 2015 Academic All-America Division I football team was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and was revealed in an announcement on Thursday afternoon. Cherry is one of 10 student-athletes out of the 49 on the Academic All-America team who are repeat selections from last season.
Zach Bednarczyk Named CAA Football Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year
After a young Villanova team battled through injuries during the season to finish the year strong and post a winning record for the 13th time in the last 15 years, the Wildcats were rewarded on Tuesday afternoon with two major award winners and a total of eight players named to the CAA Football All-Conference Teams. Redshirt freshman quarterback Zach Bednarczyk (Wallington, N.J.) was voted by league head coaches as the Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year and senior offensive lineman Jake Prus (Woodstown, N.J.) was selected as the Chuck Boone Leadership Award winner. The conference announced its postseason awards following the conclusion of regular season play last weekend. All-Conference honorees and individual award winners are voted on by CAA Football head coaches, while the league’s athletic directors select the Chuck Boone Leadership Award recipient.

Villanova (6-5, 5-3 CAA Football) ran for a season-high 321 yards and four touchdowns but also allowed 21 points off turnovers and fell by a final score of 38-29 to No. 12 James Madison (9-2, 6-2 CAA Football) at Bridgeforth Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Redshirt freshman quarterback Zach Bednarczyk (Wallington, N.J.) ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns and senior linebacker Don Cherry (Trumbull, Conn.) scored a rushing touchdown on a goal-line carry. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak but the Wildcats nevertheless finish the season with a winning record for the 13th time in the last 15 years.
