A newcomer to the Wildcat staff in 2000 is defensive backs coach Clayton Carlin. A native of Philadelphia, Carlin returns home after spending the past three seasons as the wide receivers coach at New Mexico State University. Also, during the 1999 campaign, he served as New Mexico State’s special teams coordinator. His recruiting area for Villanova will include all of Southern California. Prior to his stint at New Mexico State, Carlin spent three seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Nebraska, where he was part of two Husker National Championship teams in 1994 and 1995. Before Nebraska, Carlin was the secondary coach at Delaware Valley College. Carlin began his coaching career in the high school ranks at his alma mater, St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia. After one year as secondary coach in 1987 at St. Joseph’s Prep, Carlin was elevated to the head coaching position for four seasons from 1988-91. He is a 1987 graduate of Juniata College where he was a three-year starter at defensive back. Carlin also owns a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska. Carlin and his wife Kathleen reside in Downingtown, Pa., with their newborn daughter Carsen. | |||||||||||
