Office of Academic Support Recognizes Student-Athletes of the Month
During a successful fall sports season both in competition and academically, the Office of Academic Support for Athletics recognized three student-athletes for their accomplishments during the season. Junior safety Rob Rolle (Newfield, N.J.) from the football team was named the Student-Athlete of the Month for September, while senior Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) and sophomore Bella Burda (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) from the cross country teams were also recognized. Tiernan was the Student-Athlete of the Month for October, and also shared the November award with Burda.
Trio of Wildcats Named to Academic All-Area Football Team
Junior tight end Ryan Bell (Basking Ridge, N.J.), senior defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon (Ambler, Pa.) and junior safety Rob Rolle (Newfield, N.J.) were each announced on Thursday afternoon as selections to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team. The academic honor is voted on by the sports information offices at the Philadelphia area colleges and universities. This is the 10th straight year and the 11th time in the 12-year history of the Academic All-Area program that Villanova has had multiple selections to the all-area football squad.
Wildcats Fall to South Dakota State, 10-7, in Second Round of Playoffs
A late field goal in the closing minutes of play proved to be the decisive margin in a tight defensive battle and No. 9 Villanova (9-4) saw its terrific season come to an end in a 10-7 loss to No. 7 South Dakota State (9-3) at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The difference in the game was a 40-yard field goal kicked by Jackrabbits redshirt freshman Chase Vinatieri with 1:21 to play. On their final possession following the field goal, the Wildcats turned the ball over on downs at their own 32-yard line with 41 seconds remaining.
Wildcats Head to South Dakota State For Second Round Playoff Game
It will be a top-10 showdown on Saturday afternoon when No. 9 Villanova (9-3) travels to No. 7 South Dakota State (8-3) for a second round game in the FCS playoffs. The teams will meet for the first time ever on the gridiron, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings, S.D. The game can be seen live on ESPN3 and can be heard locally on 610 Sports WTEL-AM, with streaming audio from that broadcast available online with a Nova Nation All-Access subscription.

Fast Start Paces Wildcats Over Saint Francis 31-21 in FCS Playoffs
Three touchdowns in a span of just over eight minutes in the first half helped No. 9 Villanova (9-3) build an insurmountable lead and advance to the second round of the Division I Football Championship with a 31-21 win over Saint Francis (7-5) at Villanova Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The scoring burst that spanned the first and second quarters sent the Wildcats into the locker rooms with a 24-point lead at halftime. Villanova is now set for a second round playoff game at #8 seed South Dakota State (8-3) next Saturday, December 3 at 3 p.m. Eastern time.

In the first round of the FCS playoffs this Saturday afternoon, No. 9 Villanova (8-3) will host Saint Francis (7-4) in a game that can be seen live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Villanova Stadium, and the game will also air live on 610 Sports WTEL-AM. Tanoh Kpassagnon Named CAA Football Defensive Player of the Year
Senior defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon (Ambler, Pa.) was named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Year and was also one of nine selections from Villanova to the league’s All-Conference teams which were announced on Tuesday morning. This is the ninth time in the last eight seasons that the Wildcats have been presented with one of the CAA Football major postseason awards. Kpassagnon is just the second player in program history to earn the league’s top defensive honor.
