Three Wildcats Earn All-American Honors
The Sports Network announced its 2014 All-American Team on Monday, Dec. 22, and three Villanova Wildcats were honored.
Andy Talley Named Maxwell Club Tri-State Coach of the Year
Head football coach Andy Talley has been named the Maxwell Club Tri-State Coach of the Year. Talley will be honored at the 78th Maxwell Club National Awards Gala to be held on Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Tropicana Casino Resort in Atlantic City, N.J.
John Robertson Named FCS ADA All-American
The Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA), in coordination with the 13 FCS conference offices, announced the 2014 FCS ADA All-America team on Thursday, Dec. 18. Villanova University junior quarterback John Robertson (Paramus, N.J.) was named to the squad as the FCS ADA Top Collegiate Quarterback.
Robertson and Cherry Earn Walter Camp All-America Honors
Villanova University junior quarterback John Robertson (Paramus, N.J.) and junior linebacker Don Cherry (Trumbull, Conn.) have been named to the Walter Camp 2014 FCS All-America Team. The team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the FCS schools.
John Robertson Wins Walter Payton Award
Junior quarterback John Robertson (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) has won the Walter Payton Award given to the top player in FCS Football. He was presented with the award by Mickey Charles, CEO of the Sports Network at the annual FCS Awards Banquet at the Sheraton Society Hill in Philadelphia.
John Robertson Earns AFCA All-America Honors
Villanova junior quarterback John Robertson (Paramus, N.J.) was today named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) 2014 FCS All-America Team. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions.
Don Cherry Finishes Second For Buchanan Award
The Sports Network today announced the voting for the 2014 Buck Buchanan Award which is given to the top defensive player in FCS Football. Villanova junior linebacker Don Cherry (Trumbull, Conn.) finished second in the final voting with 253 points, including 13 first place votes.
Wildcats Edged by Sam Houston State, 34-31, in FCS Quarterfinal Round
A back-and-forth affair came down to the final play of the game and No. 6 seed Villanova (11-3) was ousted from the Division I Football Championship in a quarterfinal loss to Sam Houston State (11-4) at Villanova Stadium on Saturday afternoon. A touchdown by the Bearkats with 4:03 remaining lifted Sam Houston State to a 34-31 victory and ended the Wildcats terrific season.
