VILLANOVA, Pa. - Freshman guard Josh Hart (Silver Spring, Md./Sidwell Friends School) gave Villanova a major boost with his play off the bench in Saturday's win over Rider. On Monday, his effort earned him the nod from the BIG EAST Conference as Rookie of the Week.
This marks the fourth straight week a different Wildcat has been honored by the conference. James Bell was named player of the week on Dec. 2 while JayVaughn Pinkston and Darrun Hilliard were on the league's Honor Roll the following weeks.
Hart connected on 7-of-8 field goal attempts in the 88-67 victory over the Broncs before a sellout crowd at the Pavilion in Villanova's only action during exam week. He finished with a season-high 19 points to go with five rebounds to set the scoring pace for Villanova, which remains ranked No. 8 in this week's Associated Press poll and climbed one spot to No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches poll.
Through 11 games, Hart ranks fourth on the Wildcats in scoring with 9.5 points per game. He connects on 55 percent of his field goal attempts, which currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in that department. In addition, the 6-5 guard also contributes 5.0 rpg.
The Wildcats (11-0 overall) are one of nine unbeaten teams left in the country. They are idle until Saturday afternoon when they visit former BIG EAST rival Syracuse at 2:00 p.m. (CBS/CBS Sports Radio 610).
