VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova junior guard James Bell has been named the Philadelphia Big Five's Men's Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Bell played a key role in a pair of Wildcat victories last week.
On Dec. 11, Bell accepted a pass from freshman guard Ryan Arcidiacono with VU trailing Saint Joseph's 61-60 with 30 seconds left. The 6-6 guard calmly drained a 3-pointer to give the Wildcats the lead and then sank a pair of game-clinching free throws after a VU defensive stop to secure the win. He finished the contest with 12 points and five rebounds.
Then, on Sunday afternoon at the Pavilion, Bell followed that clutch effort with 14 points in a 75-65 victory over Delaware. He matched a career-high with four 3-point field goals in the win that improved the Wildcats' record to 7-4.
"He's become our rock," stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright of Bell following the game Sunday.
