Hilliard Named Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Junior guard Darrun Hilliard picked up a pair of honors Monday when he was tabbed Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week along with being named to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll.

Hilliard becomes the third straight Wildcat named as Big Five Player of the Week in 2013-14. James Bell took the honor on Dec. 2 and JayVaughn Pinkston did so on Dec. 9.

In Sunday's 73-52 victory over Big Five rival La Salle Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty High School) led all scorers with 21 points. He was 6-of-11 from the field and 8-of-9 at the free throw line in producing his highest point total thus far this season. In addition, the 6-6 guard contributed four steals, two rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot in 26 minutes of action.

Also on Monday, Villanova (10-0 overall) climbed two spots in both national polls. The Wildcats are listed at No. 8 in the Associated Press tally - their highest ranking since January 2011 - and No.. 12 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

The Wildcats are idle until Saturday when Rider (5-4 overall, 0-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) pays a visit to the Pavilion (4:00 p.m./Fox Sports 1).
