VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats host their only exhibition contest of 2012-13 on Thursday night when Carleton University, based in Ottawa, Canada, comes to the Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game will be web-streamed via the internet through the Nova Nation All-Access Pass at villanova.com.
"We always look forward to being back out on the court at the Pavilion in front of the Nova Nation," states Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "Carleton really battled us a few years ago when we visited Ottawa and we expect them to challenge us again this time around."
Carleton is in the midst of a pre-season schedule that includes seven matchups with NCAA Division I squads. The Ravens defeated the University of Buffalo 77-75 and Northeastern 75-62 on its home court in August and dropped a 74-70 decision to UNLV in that stretch. It captured seven of its last eight games in pre-season tournaments in Canada heading into its tour of the U.S.A., where the Ravens are also slated to meet La Salle on Friday night.
Among the headliners for the Ravens are guard Philip Scrubb and forward Dan Penner.
Villanova defeated Carleton in a prior exhibition battle on Sept. 1, 2007 by the count of 61-46 in Ottawa. Dante Cunningham scored 13 points to pace the Wildcats and Scottie Reynolds added 12 points. That same VU edition would advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 at the end of the 2007-08 campaign.
The Wildcats feature seven newcomers among their 15-man roster. The top returning scorer and rebounder is senior forward Mouphtaou Yarou. The list of prominent newcomers includes transfer guard Tony Chennault and freshmen Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu.
This contest will be Villanova's only exhibition game prior to its season opener next Friday evening against UDC at the Pavilion.
