Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova Men's and Women's basketball teams will be on display when each team stages its Blue/White scrimmage on Saturday, Nov. 11 in historic Jake Nevin Field House. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. when women's basketball coach Harry Perretta leads his team in its Blue/White scrimmage. The Wildcats are looking to build off their 1999-00 appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament and are led by seniors Lauren Pellicane, Brandi Barnes and sophomore standout Trish Juhline.
Following that scrimmage there will be activities including prize giveaways. In addition, student-athletes from both the men's and women's teams will be available to sign copies of the 2000-2001 Villanova basketball posters.
The second scrimmage of the morning will feature the men's basketball squad. Head coach Steve Lappas returns three starters, including senior guard Jermaine Medley, junior forward Brooks Sales and sophomore guard Gary Buchanan. Villanova finished 20-13 in 1999-00, its sixth 20-victory campaign in the past seven years.
This event leads into that afternoon's Wildcat football game, next door to the Field House at Villanova Stadium. Head coach Andy Talley's squad meets William & Mary in an Atlantic 10 encounter at noon.
Both the Villanova men's and women's basketball teams open their seasons at the Pavilion. The Wildcat men face Fairfield in the first round of the preseason NIT on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcat women's squad opens play on Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. against 2000 Final Four entry Penn State.
