Young Wildcats Begin Practice for 2011-12
Dallas Ouano

Oct. 14, 2011

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Preparation for the 2011-12 Villanova men's basketball season officially began late this afternoon at the Pavilion as the Wildcats took the court for their first full-scale practice.

"It's always exciting to get started," stated head coach Jay Wright.

Villanova, which earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the seventh consecutive season in 2010-11, returns two starters in juniors Maalik Wayns and Mouphtaou Yarou. Wayns and Yarou are joined as team captains for the new year by senior Dallas Ouano.

Wright believes the experience of a summer exhibition tour of Paris and Amsterdam will help a youthful roster that includes five first-year players.

"The trip we took really helped us," stated Wright. "It enabled us to put last season behind us and gave this group some shared experiences to build on."

In one week, on Oct. 21, the Wildcats will make their first on-campus public appearance at the 2011 Hoops Mania event presented by Advanced Staging Productions at the Pavilion. The following morning the `Cats will play the annual Blue/White scrimmage at 11:30 a.m. as part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities.
