VILLANOVA, Pa . - Preparation for the 2012-13 men's basketball season is officially underway.
Villanova head coach Jay Wright and the Wildcats took the floor at the Pavilion just after 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 12 for the first official practice of the new season. Today is the first day Division I squads across the land may stage a full practice session.
"It's always exciting to start a new season," says Wright. "In our family, we treat each season as its own journey and we're ready to get this one started."
The Wildcats return eight lettermen from the 2011-12 unit, including seniors Mouphtaou Yarou and Maurice Sutton. Junior James Bell, who earned 18 starting assignments last season, is back too. JayVaughn Pinkston heads a group of four sophomores looking to take on more duties in their second year as Wildcats.
There are also seven newcomers on the roster this year, though, one, Dylan Ennis, will sit out 2012-13 as a redshirt after transferring to VU from Rice. The rest of the newcomers include junior transfer Tony Chennault (granted an NCAA hardship waiver), freshmen Ryan Arcidiacono, Mislav Brzoja and Daniel Ochefu.
Villanova opens the 2012-13 regular season on Nov. 9 when UDC visits the Pavilion as part of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. It hosts the 12th annual "Hoops Mania" on Friday, Oct. 26 in the Pavilion at 7:00 p.m.
