Ray and Sumpter to Take Part in The Basketball Alumni Legends League Games
Allan Ray

Aug. 3, 2012

The Basketball Alumni Legends League (The-BALL) is hosting a pair of grudge matches between two great basketball cities. These star-studded regional battles will feature former players from the top college programs in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. For hoops fans in the Philadelphia area, this promises to be THE event of the summer. And it will be history in the making as you'll be witnessing the World Premiere of The-BALL, a new professional basketball league that will launch in 2013 with a team based here in Philly.

Two members of Villanova's noted class of 2006, Allan Ray and Curtis Sumpter, are slated to appear in the games. These two contests will close the playing career for Sumpter, a 6-7 forward from Brooklyn's Bishop Loughlin High School who scored 1,651 career points and collected 794 rebounds from 2002-07. Ray, meanwhile, is one of only eight VU players to score 2,000 or more points in his career (2,025) and was a Naimsith All-American in 2006.

Another former Wildcat standout, Alvin Williams, will serve as coach of the Philly team.

Tip-off at 8pm and broadcast on Comcast SportsNet Saint Joseph's University Hagan Arena

2450 North 54th Street
