VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova guard Malcolm Grant (Brooklyn, N.Y./Winchendon Academy) has received a release to pursue a transfer to another university, it was announced today. The 6-0 Grant appeared in 29 games as a freshman in 2007-08, averaging 5.6 points per game while drawing four starting assignments.

"Malcolm is an integral part of our basketball family and a great young man," stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "He has been exemplary as a student and a teammate at Villanova. However, he deserves starters' minutes. We are grateful for all that Malcolm has given to Villanova and support him in this decision."

Grant's debut season was highlighted by several explosive scoring efforts that lifted Villanova to victory. On Dec. 6, he came off the bench with just over eight minutes remaining and the Wildcats trailing by 21 points to LSU. Grant scored 18 points down the stretch to help spark VU to a thrilling 68-67 victory at the Wachovia Center. One month later, his 22 points helped the Wildcats upend No. 13 Pittsburgh at the Pavilion by a count of 64-63.

In 2007-08, Grant was 34-of-73 (.466) from beyond the 3-point shooting arc to lead the `Cats in 3-point accuracy.
