PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced a partnership with the "Sport Changes Life Foundation." Sport Changes Life (SCL) provides an opportunity for young people on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean to live out their dreams as athletes and scholars while competing, studying and serving in local communities in Ireland.

As a part of this partnership, Sport Changes Life will provide two full scholarships each year to Big 5 scholar-athletes with an interest in continuing their education at a post-graduate level and continuing to play the sport they love in Northern Ireland and Ireland. Big 5/Sport Changes Life Victory Scholars will coach and mentor at risk youth while gaining and sharing invaluable life experiences.

"We are honored to have a partnership with the Philadelphia Big 5 and are excited to have the opportunity to select from among some of the United States' most elite student-athletes," SCL Chair of the Board Brendan Wootten, a Penn graduate, said. "These future Victory Scholars will help change the lives and raise the aspirations of the young people with whom we work with in Ireland. Personally, I would like to thank Dr. Tom Brennan, the AD at La Salle and the Chair of The Big 5 Council, for his support. He has been a fantastic supporter for the Victory Scholarship program."

Currently, student-athletes from La Salle University (Diana Allen - Women's Soccer, Michele McCaughern - Women's Basketball) and Saint Joseph's University (Chris Coyne - Men's Basketball, Shelby Smith - Women's Basketball) are in Ireland as Victory Scholars.
