Villanova to Name Pavilion for Alumnus William B. Finneran '63
Villanova University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, today announced at Villanova's annual "Hoops on the Hudson" basketball event that the Pavilion--the University's on-campus arena and home to its Men's and Women's Basketball programs--will be named for William B. Finneran '63 VSB. Last spring, Finneran's $22.6 million leadership gift was announced to support renovations to the Pavilion and programmatic initiatives for the Villanova Men's Basketball program. This historic gift will have a lasting impact on the University's Athletics program, and when the Pavilion renovation is completed, it will be renamed the William B. Finneran Pavilion.
Villanova Picked Unanimously Again To Win In Preseason Coaches' Poll
For the third straight year, Villanova has been selected unanimously to capture the BIG EAST regular-season crown in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Wildcats received all nine possible first-place votes from the league’s head coaches and a total of 81 points in the poll. Coaches do not place their own teams on their ballots.
Villanova's Hart Named Preseason Player of the Year
Villanova guard Josh Hart has been chosen the 2016-17 BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches. St. John’s guard Shamorie Ponds was tabbed Preseason Freshman of the Year. The coaches, who were not permitted to place their own players on their ballots, also chose an All-BIG EAST First Team, All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention.
Wildcats to Receive "Pride of Philadelphia" Award
The 2015-16 NCAA National Champion Villanova Wildcats are to receive a Pride of Philly award at the 2016 Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Nov. 3.
NCAA Completes Review: Spellman a 2016-17 Academic Redshirt
An NCAA initial eligibility review has determined that freshman forward Omari Spellman (North Royalton, Ohio) will not be eligible to compete for the Wildcats during the 2016-17 basketball season. Spellman will continue to receive an athletic scholarship and practice with the team. He retains four seasons of athletic eligibility.
Villanova, BIG EAST Announce 2016-17 Men's Basketball Schedule
Intersectional clashes with Purdue, Notre Dame, and Virginia and another rugged 18-game BIG EAST Conference slate highlight the 2016-17 Villanova Men’s Basketball schedule announced on Tuesday.
For the fourth consecutive campaign, every Villanova regular season game will air on national television, including a minimum of 21 appearances on the Fox family of networks (15 on FS1, five on Fox, and one on FS2)
