Villanova junior guard Jalen Brunson was selected as the National Player of the Year on March 6 by USA Today and

Brunson joins the late Paul Arizin as Wildcats to be named National Player of the Year by a major publication or organization. Arizin was the choice of The Sporting News and The Helms Foundation at the conclusion of his senior season of 1949-50.

Also on Tuesday, the United States Basketball Writers Association announced its All-District teams. The native of Lincolnshire, Ill., is the District II Player of the Year. The District II Coach of the Year is Villanova's Jay Wright.

Villanova opens play in the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. against the winner of the opening round contest between No. 7 seed Marquette and No. 10 seed DePaul.
