Villanova Beats Hofstra 86-74
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Howard Brown scored 20 points and Malik Allen had 16 points and 10 rebounds, leading Villanova to an 86-74 victory over Hofstra Saturday night.
Rafal Bigus had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats (5-4), who enjoyed a distinct size advantage over the Flying Dutchmen.
Craig Claxton had 16 points for Hofstra, 6-5.
Villanova took its biggest lead of the game, 61-44, with 13:09 to play, before Hofstra scored seven straight points. Then a 10-4 run capped by two free throws by Bigus pushed the Villanova lead to 71-55 with 6:18 remaining.
Hofstra led, 27-26, following two free throws by Joe Brown with 6:15 left in the first half, but Brian Lynch came off the bench to score 10 points and lead the Wildcats to a 42-33 halftime advantage.
Lynch finished with 12 points while Anthony Davis had 13 and Roberto Gittens 12 for Hofstra.
