VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Curtis Sumpter scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Villanova to a 68-47 victory over Fordham on Tuesday night.

The teams met for the first time since 1971 when Villanova posted an 85-75 victory in the second round of the NCAA tournament en route to its run to the title game.

Randy Foye added 17 points for the Wildcats (4-1), winners of eight straight over Fordham (3-4), which has not beaten Villanova since the 1951-52 season.

Sebastian Greene led Fordham with 11 points. Bryant Dunston, coming off a 24-point effort in a victory over Fairfield, had just nine points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field.

The Rams shot just 31 percent from the field and were outrebounded 41-27.

The Wildcats scored six straight points to increase their 13-point halftime lead to 35-16. Foye's one-handed dunk after a steal gave Villanova a 45-25 lead with 11:48 remaining and the Wildcats were never threatened the rest of the way.

Jason Fraser had 12 points and four blocks for Villanova, which has blocked 38 shots through its first five games.
