Villanova, Pa. (AP) - Allan Ray scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as Villanova built a big lead early on the way to a 66-41 victory over UMBC on Tuesday night.

Andrew Feeley scored 12 points to lead UMBC (1-1), which shot just 32 percent in the opening 20 minutes and committed six turnovers to fall into a 25-point halftime deficit.
Villanova scored the first 10 points of the game on dunks by Sumpter and Foye and a pair of 3-pointers by Ray. Foye's third 3-pointer put the Wildcats comfortably in front, 33-11, with 4:52 remaining in the opening half. Ray hit 5-of-6 from beyond the arc in the first half and the Wildcats went to the locker room with a 41-16 advantage.
The Wildcats used an 11-2 run to open a 34-point cushion midway through the second half and cruised to the easy victory.
Villanova, which won the only previous meeting between the schools, 72-60, in 2002, has lost once in 19 home openers since the Pavilion opened in 1986. The Wildcats' only loss came against Seton Hall in 1991.
