Wildcats Shine In Exhibition Victory

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Villanova University men's basketball team opened up their 2007-08 season tonight (Nov. 6) at the Wachovia Center with a preseason exhibition game with Division II Bloomsburg University. The Wildcats came out victorious with an 88-41 win over the Huskies.

Four players for the Wildcats scored in double-figures with freshman Corey Stokes leading the way with 18 points and 10 boards recording the first double-double of his young collegiate career. Sophomore guard Scottie Reynolds continued where he left off last season scoring 17 points while dishing out eight assists.

The final two players in double-figures were redshirt freshman Antonio Pena, who scored 15, and sophomore Reggie Redding adding 11.

The Wildcats shot an impressive 71.9 percent in the first half building up a 43 point lead. They also connected on seven of 12 attempts from beyond the arc in the session. The second half was a bit cooler for Wildcats as they only hit 43.8 percent giving them a 57.8 shooting percentage for the entire game.

Villanova was not only strong on the offensive end but also defensively as they forced 26 turnovers and held BU to 33.3 percent shooting.

The Wildcats will open the regular season this Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m. as they host Stony Brook University inside the Pavilion. Villanova will next return to the Wachovia Center December 6th at 9:30 p.m. as they take on Louisiana State University in the BIG EAST/SEC Invitational.
